Choosing your floor

Our vast selection of flooring comes in many inspiring styles, finishes and colours. Choosing the right flooring for your home and business can be a tricky with so much choice. Not just in types of flooring but with shapes, colours and textures. The team at the Flooring Mill can help you choose just the right flooring for any room in your home or area of your business premises.

Choosing flooring for your home

We ask a few questions to get to know a little about you and your home life. We start off by learning about the room you are choosing new flooring for. Where in the home is this room, bedroom, kitchen, hallway or a lounge? We will then ask how you use the room, does it have high traffic flow through it, e.g. do you have children or pets. We also need to know if you have underfloor heating. Once we know the type of flooring that will best match your needs, it’s time to choose colours and style.

Solid wood flooring

There is nothing like the feel of natural wood flooring underfoot. Wooden flooring adds style and luxury to your home or business with a sense of being close to nature. Solid wood flooring is ideal in both contemporary or traditional properties. It is long-lasting with each board precision machined from a single section of timber. Tongue and groove joints make for a tight and strong installation. There are various finishes you can choose from UV Oiled or Lacquered, distressed or unfinished for you to add your own finish. Wooden flooring is available in various plank widths and styles.

Caring for your solid wood floor

As wood is a natural substance, it is susceptible to everyday wear and tear. To ensure it always looks its best and lasts longer. The Flooring Mill team can advise you on how to best maintain your wooden floor but are a few of the steps we would advise to protect your floor:

  • If you have wooden flooring in your hallway, ensure you have a good quality doormat at the entrance to trap dirt and grit which could damage your floor if brought into the house.
  • Use a rug or runner in high traffic areas to protect your floor in areas such as hallways or stairs.
  • Never drag furniture over your wooden floor as it will risk denting or scratching it.
  • Keep your floor clean, regularly sweep with a soft brush or vacuum with a soft brush attachment. If anything gets spilt on your floor, clean it up immediately so as not to damage your floor.

We provide every customer with a comprehensive guide on how to maintain their beautiful wooden floor.

Engineered wood flooring

Engineered wood flooring is formed from three layers. The top layer of real wood provides the unique texture and strength. There is a central core of softwood, high-density fiberboard or plywood which adds stability, and then there is a veneer underneath for balance. The resulting boards are gorgeous and long-lasting.

This flooring has an engineered construction with just a top layer of real wood which helps the tree to go further, extending the resources available while providing a more stable floor. The construction of engineered boards makes them more versatile and practical in a home or business area.

Engineered wood flooring is one of the wooden flooring types designed to work well with underfloor heating without drying or warping. The wood used for our floors is carefully selected from sustainable sources.

Our range of engineered wood flooring is varied in both colour style and design, there is an engineered floor to suit almost all customer tastes and budgets. Our range includes plank style, herringbone layout, chevron pattern and reclaimed. See our Inspiration gallery for just a few of the beautifully engineered wood flooring designs.

Laminate flooring

Laminate flooring looks just like real wood flooring but has the advantage of being tough and hardwearing with a huge choice of styles and colours available. It is scratch resistant, in some cases, water-resistant and is very affordable compared to real wood.

Our extensive collection includes various plank designs from extra long to extra wide planks, parquet look or herringbone design. Colours range from the palest ivory oak to a deep dark oak with various shades of grey and naturals. Finishes include wood and stone effect.

Maintaining your laminate floor is easy, just mop up any spills and clean with a damp cloth or a well wrung out mop. Your floor will stay looking as good as the day it was fitted for years to come.

The team at The Flooring Mill will always be able to advise you on the best type of laminate floor for your home or business, choosing the right type of products to cope with whatever traffic wanders over it on a daily basis.
